Every Friday afternoon between 1.00pm and 3pm all pupils take part for 5 weeks in 6 different "life skill" activities or modules. These are:
Art & Design Technology - portraits, landscapes, ceramics & sculpture work (including visiting local sculptures).
Food Technology - "Ways with Mince", Pastry, Cakes and "Healthy Alternatives to Fast Food". (See Cavendish College Recipes for opportunities to try these at home!).
Gardening and Nature - planting, weeding, harvesting and maintenance. Also constructing bug hotels, observing and cataloguing wildlife etc.
Music - how to compose music (including using computers), singing and playing instruments.
Social Studies - circle time, orienteering, team games, social skills etc.
Textiles - cross-stitch, applique, working with wool (including knitting), rag rugs and toys.
After each unit pupils are awarded a certificate in that module. One pupil commented to OFSTED: ‘I like learning in the Cavendish College sessions because teachers ‘give us loads more exciting stuff to do.’
